A Voice for Porters Since 2001
Kiliporters was founded by porters themselves to create a stronger voice for their rights and welfare. Today we continue that mission on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.

To protect and promote the rights and interests of porters through advocacy, education, health and safety support, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and unity.
For more than 25 years, Kiliporters has continued to defend porter rights, promote health and safety at work, provide education and skills opportunities, encourage economic empowerment and support environmental stewardship.

From a porter's experience to a movement.
Kilimanjaro Porters Association (Kiliporters) was established in January 2001 with the aim of bringing together, supporting and protecting the rights and welfare of porters working in the tourism industry on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Our work focuses on protecting porters' interests, including:
- Fair wages
- Adequate food
- Proper accommodation
- Appropriate working equipment
- Access to medical care
- Access to education

Founded by Frank Olotu
The association was founded by Frank Olotu, himself a porter, to unite porters and defend their rights and welfare on the mountain.

Officially registered
Registered on 16 October 2001 under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the Registrar of Civil Societies.

The National Parks Regulations, 2003
The National Parks Regulations, 2003 (Government Notice No. 191), made under the National Parks Ordinance, Cap. 412, established provisions addressing the protection and welfare of porters. Since then, Kiliporters has continued to advocate for the rights, welfare, and improved working conditions of porters.

15,000+ porters supported
Over the years, Kiliporters has supported more than 15,000 porters in accessing and claiming their rights, working with partners and stakeholders to improve welfare and working conditions on Mount Kilimanjaro.
